Andreea Bratu

Andreea Bratu is a PhD student at the UBC School of Population and Public Health and the Assistant Director and Co-Founder of the Mental Health and Climate Change Alliance. She received her training in epidemiology and public health research from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (M.Sc.) and the University of Nottingham (M.Nutr. & B.Sc.). Driven by a strong passion for planetary and public health, Andreea has worked in the public, private, and non-profit sectors in both western healthcare systems and in resource-poor settings, alongside impactful institutions such as the World Health Organization and Health Canada. Her current training and research focus on exploring the mental health effects of climate change, with specific interests in understanding relevant links in the context of climate justice and health equity.

While still at the beginning of her research journey, Andreea has received several competitive awards in recognition of her previous achievements and research potential, including The 2022 CIHR Doctoral Research Award, The 2022 UBC Four Year Doctoral Fellowship, and The 2021 UBC Faculty of Medicine Graduate Award, and the 2021 & 2022 President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award. Her previous academic record includes authoring and co-authoring several publications and conference presentations, and contributing as a co-investigator to several large-scale grants submitted to large funding bodies such as NIH, CIHR, and MSFHR.
